DIY: New Years Eve & Party Decorations

I hope you all are having a perfect start to your very last day of 2014. Luckily, if your day isn't going so well, you can have a nice re-start tomorrow in 2015 :) Do you guys have plans for New Year's Eve tonight? I never have plans - last year, my bf and I stayed in at our apartment, watched Downton Abbey, and tried (key word *tried*) to stream the Ball Drop on our laptop. I was asleep on the couch by 10:30pm, which is pretty typical. Woke up just in time for the half-awake, no-makeup, probably-should-have-brushed-my-teeth kiss at midnight, and was right back to sleeping.

This year, we class it up a bit and host a party at our place. Nothing too fancy - just a get together for those who don't want to go out. Of course, the most exciting part of this party is the ability to decorate - hence this video.

Now, before we move on - I TOTALLY KNOW THIS VIDEO IS LATE! I am the worst. BUT these DIY decor ideas are super easy and fast - you could definitely whip up one of these tomorrow morning and have it all ready by your party at night.

With that said, let's get into the DIY's:

1. Deer picture

This first DIY is this adorable deer picture. I think it is SO beautiful. And it looks super expensive. My canvas is from the dollarstore, and isn't as tight on the frame as I would have liked - you can see some sagging in the corner in this picture. Luckily in real life, you can't really tell. And the final price of this DIY was about $5. Total steal.

The deer I used is actually larger than an 8.5" x 11". I printed it on multiple sheets (4), taped the sheets together, and then cut the deer out. If you would like to download the 4-sheeted deer I used for this DIY, click here. If you would like the normal deer that is not divided into 4 pages, click here.

2. Star Garland

I love this star garland. The juxtaposition between the glam gold glitter and the rustic twine rope is amazing - totally in love! And it was SO easy and inexpensive. You would absolutely never know that I made this out of recycled Sephora boxes. This DIY was maybe $3 to do - and that is on the high side.

You can download the star stencil I used to make this garland here.

3. NYE Wine Bottles

Seriously, pictures do not do this DIY justice. I was afraid this one was going to look really cheesy and home-made, but it actually looks SO good. The upcycled wine bottles cost nothing, and the wooden letters were only $2 each. This DIY was the most expensive, at a whopping $8. If you want to make this one even cheaper, you can cut the letters out of cardboard like the stars in DIY #2. Cover them in glitter and no one will ever know you used items that were in your recycling bin.

4. Pop Fizz Clink Cheers Picture and Frame

This is the quickest and easiest DIY of them all. If you are seeing this post really late in the game and do not have time to paint/glitter than do this! All you need is an 8"x10" frame (you can buy one new - I got mine at the dollarstore - or for a quicker fix, use a frame you already have! Just remove the picture you normally keep in the frame for the night, and place it back in when the party is over). I think this looks great on the bar, with the alcohol and champagne glasses. So cute.

Let me all know in the comment section if you liked this video and would like to see more DIYs. I will do them more often on my channel if I know you like them. Also, let me know what you are doing for NYE - are you an all-out glam gal that gussies up and hits the town? Or are you a stay in, no-makeup, messy bun, flannel pjs babe? I would love to know!

Review & Giveaway: Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette.

When I woke up last Tuesday, it was like Christmas came early. A new Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette? "Semi-Sweet"? With all bronzy shades? And a gorge blue shimmer shadow? YES, GIRL! YES!!

I know, I know - tis' is the season for giving, not receiving/buying for myself. That is why I bought TWO PALETTES!! One for me and one for you! GIVEAWAY TIME!

(Side note: It is still "giving" if you also get yourself a gift, right?)

If you would like to see swatches of the colours from this palette, and learn about how you can win a Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar for yourself, watch this video:

As you will see from the video, I love this palette. The colours are so gorgeous and blend beautifully. I am actually wearing "Peanut Butter", "Truffled", "Caramel", and "Licorice" on my eyes in the video. Super pretty. Especially if you have blue or green eyes, these colours would look so beautiful. It will also be a great summer palette, with the really pretty gold and bronze shades.

There have actually been a ton of new palettes released recently. Which ones are you putting on your wish list? Let me know in the comment section - I would love to know!

My Law School Study Hell.

Welcome, friends, to my study hell!

For those of you who do not know, I am a law student in my third year.  Law school, for the most part, is pretty relaxing in 3L. By this point must of us have jobs lined up for next year. So we don't go to class much, spend a lot of time with friends, and don't do readings - it is actually fun! That is ... until exam time. At exam time, the weight of not having done anything all semester and needing to at least PASS our classes comes crashing down on us.

This is the 'world-crashing-down-on-me' state I am in now. And it sucks.

I have two exams - one in Family law, and the other in Administrative Law. My first exam is next Monday, and the last one is the following Friday. This means I am done all my exams on December 12th! I know I have had to really neglect my YouTube channel and this blog over the past 3 weeks. But it is all coming to an end soon, and I could not be happier about it.

I have a ton of Christmas and holiday videos planned for after exams, but I would love to know what you would like to see! Please comment below with any requests at all that you may have. I also want to film another Law Student Q&A, so leave your questions for that down below.

ALSO, I may be in study hell, but at least we have phones and WiFi down here! Haha. That is my fancy way of saying I am still posting to Instagram and Twitter during all this madness. So please follow me there and chat with me. Nothing is better than chatting about makeup, fashion, beauty, and the holidays with all of you - perfect form of procrastination!

Ok. I must go back to studying Family Law now .... damn.

Fan Girl Friday: Whitney Hedrick.

Friday. Yes! Wooo!! I hope you are all out having an amazing night partying it up, with your glitter liner, false lashes, and sky high pumps. Of course, I am sitting in my apartment alone drinking red wine right now, so my Friday is really bumpin' ....

I do have some fun news for you guys! From now on, Friday is going to be 'Fan Girl Friday'. Every Friday I am going to pick out either a YouTuber or blogger (or maybe both) and tell you why I love him/her! I think YouTubers and Bloggers should share the love as often as we possibly can. I know that my #1 favourite thing to do in my down time is to watch other beauty guru's videos and read other blogger's blogs.  I could do it for HOURS.  In fact, I often do it for hours ... I just did it for hours ... with my wine ... and my empty apartment ... I am a party animal, let me tell ya.

In my defence, I am in full makeup, complete with glitter shadow. HA! I wish I were kidding.

OK! So this week I am fan girl-ing hard over Whitney Hedrick. This beauty is a makeup artist who blogs and YouTubes. She is (a) stunning; (b) uber talented; (c) rocking the cutest shoulder length hairstyle; (d) extremely inspiring. Her eye makeup is on point in every single video. Like, ON POINT! So amazing. And as an extra bonus, she has some amazing tattoos (I am obsessed with tattoos now because I am getting my very first one next month!)

Here is all the information on where you can find Whitney:

Twitter: @WhitneyLHedrick

I adore you.
<3 - Fan Girl.

PS - I HAVE A QUESTION!! Do any of you girls know of a new YouTuber or blogger you absolutely love? We all know the really big gurus, but I am looking for the girls that are newer or haven't gotten the recognition they deserve. Let me know in the comment section below!

Review: Mac Holiday Pigment Set.

I love Christmas. I love the holidays. I love glitter. And above all, I LOVE MAC!!

Today, I am reviewing one of the three pigment holiday sets from the Objects of Affection collection at MAC. There really is not much to say about this product. It is absolutely stunningly gorgeous. The pictures do not do these pigments justice.

There are three sets available for purchase: a blue-silver set, a bronze set, and the one I purchased, a pink-rose set.  All of the sets are beautiful. Personally, I like the blue-silver and pink-rose sets the best. The bronze set is not as flashy as the other two, and for the holidays I like to be as flashy as possible.

The best part about these sets is that in each, in addition to four pigments, there is a pure glitter shade. In the swatches above, the middle colour is the pure glitter. It really is like very fine craft glitter - pure and beautiful. I applied each of the swatches above without any primer except the glitter. It really would be impossible to wear this without a base - it would go everywhere. I applied the glitter over my Too Faced Glitter Glue which worked wonders! As you can see, it made the glitter apply completely opaque and it was NOT coming off.  I definitely recommend buying the Too Faced Glitter Glue if you plan on wearing the glitter shade. In fact, it works great with the pigments as well - by far my favourite primer.

The price of this set is $42 here in Canada, which I believe is extremely reasonable. For five pigments? That is unbelievable. And although these pigments are not full sized, I promise you will never go through this smaller sized pigment, let alone the full sized product.

Conclusion? Buy these. RUN. RUN TO YOUR LOCAL MAC COUNTER NOW (can you tell I am obsessed with this holiday set?)

Review: NARS Audacious Lipsticks.

Today I am reviewing the NARS Audacious lipsticks, which I had to pick up during the Sephora VIB sale for 20% off (ps, it is a really great thing that the VIB sale is now over. The amount I purchased is ... well, let's just say its a LOT).

These lipsticks are GORG. Just beautiful. First of all, I am a sucker for packaging. The cap of the lipstick tube magnetically attaches to the rest of the tube, which is SO MUCH FUN TO PLAY WITH! I adore it. And the actual lipstick? I have never in my life tried a lipstick with so much pigment. One swipe, and that's it. That really is all you need.  The colour selection is beautiful - definitely more 'adult', without as many brights and nudes. But trust me, if there are any nudes and brights to be found, I WILL FIND THEM!!

Which brings me to the two colours I purchased:
- Raquel, the lightest shade NARS offers. It is a peachy nude
- Claudia, one of the brightest colours. This is a bright, mid toned, barbie pink.

The only problem, and I am sure you all see this coming, is the price tag. Each of these lipsticks - BRACE YOURSELF - is $37 here in Canada. THIRTY-SEVEN!!! They are crazy expensive (aka why I only have two to review for you today). But they are absolutely beautiful and definitely luxurious enough to be worth the money if you are looking for something special.

Review: MAKE UP FOR EVER Studio Case.

I am so happy to be posting this video today :) I wanted to get my hands on this bessy for SO LONG. It is just SO pretty. And I have been dying to try the new formulation of the Makeup Forever eyeshadows since they were released not long ago.

First off, I really do love this palette. WATCH THIS VIDEO FOR A FULL REVIEW:

Although this palette is not packaged up with nutcrackers and tinsel, it is the perfect christmas or holiday gift for someone who loves makeup. Especially for the beginner, this is so great. In Canada, this sucker is $68, so the price tag is steep. However, the Makeup Forever brand is excellent (and expensive) and you do get your money's worth out of this palette.

Now, for the negatives about this product (because I always seem to find some!) - the packaging is not great for makeup collectors, like me. I love makeup. I love eyeshadow. And I have a lot of it. I do not, however (like some other girls on YouTube) have a makeup closet or room devoted to storing said makeup and eyeshadow. So, for me the packaging is frustratingly clunky and large. That said, for the normal person without so much makeup, the case is adorable.  The other problem, and you can see this in the video/in the swatches, is that some of the colours (maybe 3/12) are not very pigmented. But the rest of the colours are GORGEOUS and even the less pigmented colours are build able.

I hope you enjoyed this review! Let me know in the comment section if there are any holiday products you would like me to review in the upcoming weeks!

Huge Sephora Haul.

I swear, I think the universe does not want me uploading a video today. First, my camera's lens crashed on the floor and broke in half (whoops). Then, my iMovie refuses to export the edited video. And finally, YouTube corrupts when I try to upload the video. Geez. But don't you worry - I am a stubborn, STUBBORN lady.

As you can tell by the title of this post, I did some shopping (cue the guilt) - Too Faced, Tarte, Glam Glow, MAC, Givenchy, and Clinique, OH MY! If you would like to see everything I bought, watch my haul video:

Here is a list of all the items featured in the video, and links for where you can get them. For all of you Sephora Beauty Insiders, you can get 15% off starting NOW on all of these items. And VIB? 20% starting tomorrow. Needless to say, I smell another blog coming soon .... (cue the extra guilt and excitement).

* Too Faced La Creme Lipstick, in Marshmallow Bunny
* MAC Lipstick, in Relentlessly Red (Retro Matte)
* MAC Lipstick, in Sweet and Sour (Creamsheen)

ALSO, for those of you wondering, the Kimono top I am wearing in the video is from Forever 21. You can find it here (in the colour Wine).

I hope you enjoy this video! Let me know if you like my haul videos. I just recently placed an order from Makeup Geek, plus with the Sephora VIB Sale? Yeaaahhhh there can definitely be another haul if you would like to see it.

Review: FabFitFun VIP Box.

Despite 24 hours of not being able to upload this video and a headache that just won't go away, I am still VERY EXCITED that today marks the first day back on YouTube. Oh Netherlands. My beautiful Netherlands.

You took me by surprise and stole my heart.

With your canals, and architecture, and bikes that almost killed me.

With your art, archways, and artisinal marijuana.

With your international recognition as the hub for justice.

Also, did I mention the men are hot there? (Sorry love - if you are reading this. But if you visit Brazil, I FULLY expect you to come back and say that the women are hot there). Because they are HOT.

I miss you and hope to be with you again soon.

Back in May, I went on a trip to Europe.

"But Jess, you are a law student - how the hell did you afford a Euro trip?!"

Good question. I didn't afford it. The trip was paid for by my LAW SCHOOL .... RIGHT?! I joined a mooting* team at the begining of my second year, and our competitve rounds were in New York, and The Hague. I mean, come on!

Moral of the story - when you are paying a crazy amount for school, always make sure you find the best ways to get your money back.

Moving right along - as I said, the competition was in The Hague, Netherlands and lasted a week. But I decided to go to London England first (aka my fave place ever) for a few days to visit one of my great friends, and then met up with my bestie (can you still use this term at 25? Or is this slang only pre-teens can get away with...) in Amsterdam for a quick, but awesome 24 hours.

I love photography, and given my lack of financial stability, I spent $0 and a ton of my time taking pictures of everything beautiful in London and Amsterdam. 1650 pictures in total. Ridiclous. I just finished going through all these pictures a couple of days ago, and decided to share with you a few of my favourites.

FIRST UP - my pictures of London. Enjoy!
